Job Summary
The Federal Institute of Hydrology (BfG), a key scientific institute under the Federal Ministry of Transport, is seeking a Scientific Researcher for its "Ecological Fundamental Issues, Environmental Protection" department. This role is crucial for contributing to the "Natural Climate Protection Action Program (ANK)" by developing and establishing monitoring systems for climate protection-relevant effects of ecological water development measures in rivers and waterways. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating BfG-wide efforts, conducting interdisciplinary scientific tasks, and synthesizing results into comprehensive reports, including evaluating measure types and refining monitoring concepts. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to significant environmental and climate protection initiatives in Germany, working within a modern, interdisciplinary environment in Koblenz.
Required Skills
Education
University Diploma/Master's degree in Biology, Geography, Environmental Sciences, Geoecology, or comparable qualification
Experience
- Professional experience, especially in public administration (waterways and shipping administration, environmental, nature conservation, or water management authorities, or research institutions/universities)
- In-depth knowledge and experience in determining climate protection-relevant effects, ecosystem services, and monetization
- In-depth knowledge and experience in ecological measures on large flowing waters (measure types, effects, and ecological evaluation), and general ecology of large flowing waters and their floodplains
- Proven experience in coordinating interdisciplinary projects, project management, and leading working groups
- Proven ability to present complex issues to target groups in various communication formats
- Experience with administrative organization and procurement according to VOF, VOL(A)

- The position is based in Koblenz, Germany. The role is temporary until December 31, 2027. Willingness to undertake multi-day business trips is required. Willingness for further training and education, including in initially unfamiliar topics, is expected. Foreign educational qualifications must be accompanied by proof of recognition from the Central Office for Foreign Education (ZAB).
