Job Summary

This is a pivotal role within the Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration (WSA) Ostsee, where you will serve as the responsible engineer for the Traffic Technology Operations Network. The position involves establishing a new specialized department, requiring the successful candidate to possess the capability and willingness to assume leadership responsibilities, coordinating the work of up to 30 employees. Day-to-day tasks include creating execution plans for the expansion and modernization of the coastal communication network, determining IT security standards, acquiring necessary resources, and coordinating system component conversions. You will be responsible for ensuring the network maintains the highest possible security standards, analyzing system quality, identifying vulnerabilities, and developing emergency management protocols for potential disruption scenarios. This role offers a chance to actively shape critical infrastructure within a major federal agency, ensuring the performance and reliability of specialized services.

Required Skills

Education

University degree (Master's or equivalent) in Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Communication Technology, or comparable fields

Experience

  • Professional and leadership experience as a (Project) Engineer
  • Experience in Kritis/BSI Basic Protection compliant operation of security-relevant networked IT systems
  • Experience operating a WAN with many operating locations
  • Experience with Layer 2 and Layer 3 networks
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to assume leadership tasks
