Job Summary

This role offers a unique opportunity for a highly motivated individual to pursue a doctoral degree in Experimental Particle Physics at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal. The successful candidate will engage in cutting-edge research, focusing on the analysis of top quark events, including searches for physics beyond the Standard Model and measurements of rare processes within the Standard Model. Key responsibilities also include contributing to the ATLAS MC Validation Framework PAVER and participating in the operation of the ATLAS detector through control room shifts. This position is ideal for a physics graduate with a strong background in experimental particle physics, data analysis, and programming, offering the possibility of extended research stays at CERN.

Required Skills

Education

Master of Science in Physics or comparable degree

Experience

  • Experience in experimental particle physics or related research fields (nuclear, hadron, or astroparticle physics), evidenced by a thesis in these areas
  • Experience in the analysis of experimental or simulated data or phenomenological studies

Languages

English (Basic)

Additional

  • This is a qualification position under the German Fixed-Term Employment Contracts in Science Act (WissZeitVG), serving to promote a doctoral procedure. The position is temporary for the duration of the doctoral procedure, initially for up to 3 years. An extension to complete the doctorate may be possible within the limitations of the WissZeitVG. Extended research stays at CERN are possible.
