PhD Student in Root Biology | PhD Student (f/m/d) in Root Biology
Leibniz-Institut für Pflanzen- genetik und Kulturpflanzen- forschung (IPK)
Job Summary
This PhD position focuses on understanding root anatomical and architectural traits in crops, particularly barley, wheat, and maize, to enhance drought resilience and yield stability. The successful candidate will engage in high-throughput phenotyping, imaging, microscopy, and physiological measurements to determine the function of root phenotypes. Key responsibilities include plant cultivation in greenhouse and field settings, functional-structural plant modeling, and active participation in scientific dissemination through publications and presentations. This role requires a strong background in plant science, practical experience in plant phenotyping, and proficiency in data analysis, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in a world-class center.
Required Skills
Education
MSc in Plant Science, Crop Science, Biology, or related field
Experience
- Experience growing, managing, and phenotyping plants in the field and greenhouse
- Experience using modern approaches in root phenotyping, image analysis, or simulation modeling to understand the functional roles of plant roots in agroecosystems
Languages
Additional
- Foreign qualifications require an equivalence test in Germany, which is subject to a fee and must be presented upon hiring.
