Job Summary

As a Research Scientist at the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) in Berlin, you will play a pivotal role in the BMBF-funded SHERLOCK project focused on direct battery recycling. Your primary responsibility is to develop and validate a methodology for the chemical characterization of recycling materials using laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS). This role involves creating systems for rapid, quantitative element analysis of black mass for inline quality control. You will collaborate with academic and industry partners, present findings at international conferences, and work in a state-of-the-art laboratory environment. This position offers a unique opportunity for professional development, as the project is suitable for a doctoral thesis. You will contribute to high-level research aimed at enhancing technical safety and environmental protection, working within a multidisciplinary team dedicated to innovative material science and data-driven analytical processes.

Required Skills

Education

Completed university degree (Master's or equivalent) in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Data Engineering, or a related field.

Experience

  • Professional experience in material testing and analysis of inorganic materials using spectroscopic methods
  • Experience in the automation of laboratory measurements
  • Experience in the setup of optical measurement systems
  • Experience in handling digital research data and processes, including electronic lab notebooks and version control systems
