Job Summary

As a Research Fellow, you will play a critical role in a third-party funded project focused on the ecology and conservation of migratory fish species in Germany. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include conducting comprehensive literature reviews, managing biostatistical databases, and performing field-based tagging experiments using acoustic telemetry and PIT-tags. You will also conduct laboratory analyses, such as age determination and tissue sampling, while drafting project reports and coordinating with external stakeholders. This role requires a strong background in biology or fisheries science, ideally complemented by a doctorate. You will be part of an interdisciplinary team at the Thünen Institute, contributing to the development of sustainable management strategies for endangered aquatic species. Required Skills

Education

University degree (Master of Science or equivalent) in Biology, Fisheries Biology, or a related field; a completed doctorate is preferred.

Experience

  • Several years of relevant professional experience in biology or fisheries science
  • Professional experience in experimental work with fish
  • Experience in fish tagging and telemetry is highly desirable
  • Proven experience in biostatistics and database maintenance

  • Valid class B driving license required. Willingness to conduct animal experiments and travel for fieldwork and meetings. If holding an international degree, a certificate evaluation from the Central Office for Foreign Education (ZAB) is required upon successful application.
