Job Summary

This Postdoctoral Research Associate position at the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut offers a unique opportunity to contribute to high-stakes research in animal disease and biosafety. Based at the Greifswald-Insel Riems facility, the successful candidate will support the management of BSL4 animal facilities, coordinating animal experiments, establishing animal models, and optimizing analytical methods under high-containment conditions. The role involves training staff, preparing regulatory applications, and conducting independent research on virus-host interactions or intervention strategies. Candidates must hold a PhD in Biology, Veterinary Medicine, or a related field and possess experience with virological in-vitro work in high-security laboratories. The position provides a structured environment for professional development, including the potential for advanced veterinary specialization, within an internationally recognized research institution. A high degree of self-organization, communication skills, and the ability to pass a mandatory security clearance (SÜG) are essential for this role.

Required Skills

Education

Completed university degree (Master's level or equivalent) in Biology, Veterinary Medicine, Medicine, Microbiology, or related fields; PhD in one of these fields is mandatory.

Experience

  • Professional experience with virological in-vitro work in high-security (S3 or S4) laboratories
  • Experience with animal models in high-security (S3 or S4) environments is an advantage
  • Experience in training or guiding new staff members is an advantage
  • Documented experience in conducting animal experiments (e.g., FELASA certification) is an advantage
