Job Summary

This Postdoctoral position in Bioinformatics focuses on advancing research in microbial pathogenicity and infection biology at the Institute for Molecular Pathogenesis. The role involves developing pipelines for analyzing bacterial genomes and transcriptomes (RNASeq), investigating the development of farm-specific microbiota, and complementing methods for real-time animal parameter capture. You will also train other researchers in using bioinformatics tools. The ideal candidate holds a PhD in Bioinformatics, Informatics, Biology, Biochemistry, Veterinary Medicine, or a related science, with demonstrated bioinformatics expertise. Experience with programming languages (R/Python), Linux environments, servers, databases, and infection research is highly beneficial. The position requires strong motivation, teamwork, and organizational skills, and involves working in a secure facility requiring a background check.

Required Skills

Education

Completed university degree in Bioinformatics or Informatics. Degrees in Biology, Biochemistry, Veterinary Medicine, or a comparable natural science discipline are permissible if bioinformatics knowledge can be demonstrated. Successfully completed PhD, preferably in the context of medical or biological questions.

Experience

  • PhD degree, preferably in medical or biological research
  • Professional experience in bioinformatics programming (R/Python etc.) is advantageous
  • Experience working with Linux, compute servers, and database systems (e.g., MySQL) is advantageous
  • Experience in infection research is advantageous
  • Experience in the scientific publication process is advantageous

Additional

  • Requires a security clearance according to the Security Screening Act (SÜG) and special precautions against health hazards due to work in a security area. Personal and health suitability is a prerequisite. Must be able to work 100% of the regular weekly working time. Contract duration is limited to 24 months.
