Job Summary
Saarland University is seeking a Full Professor (W3) for Applied Mechanics to join the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology. This permanent civil service position focuses on the continuum mechanical modeling of complex multi-field problems within the context of material sustainability and circular material systems. The successful candidate will play a leading role in the university's 'Sustainability' research focus and the 'CircularSaar' transformation project. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting high-level research, delivering undergraduate and graduate lectures in subjects such as Engineering Mechanics and Finite Elements, and securing external research funding. This role is highly attractive for established academics looking to work in an international environment with strong interdisciplinary links to prestigious research institutes like DFKI and IZFP. The position offers the opportunity to shape the future of sustainable production processes and recycling technologies through advanced computational modeling and academic leadership.
Required Skills
Education
University degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field; PhD with outstanding results; Habilitation or equivalent academic achievements (Habilitationsäquivalenz).
Experience
- Extensive professional experience in Applied Mechanics and continuum mechanical modeling
- Proven track record of high-quality scientific publications and conference contributions
- Demonstrated success in the acquisition and management of third-party funded research projects
- Experience in university-level teaching, supported by positive teaching evaluations
- Experience in academic self-administration and committee work
- Experience in interdisciplinary and international research collaborations

- The position is a permanent life-time civil service appointment (Beamtenverhältnis auf Lebenszeit). Candidates must meet the recruitment requirements of § 41 of the Saarland Higher Education Act (SHSG).
