Job Summary

Saarland University is seeking a Professor (W2 with Tenure Track to W3) to lead research and teaching in Sustainable Metallurgy and Circular Structural Materials. This role is central to the university's 'Sustainability' research focus and the 'CircularSaar' transformation project. Day-to-day, the successful candidate will develop low-carbon production methods, establish emission-free cycles for metal products, and research hydrogen-based reduction and electrochemical extraction of valuable elements like Lithium and Cobalt. You will design new alloy systems that are easier to recycle and require less energy for processing. The position involves establishing new courses in sustainable metallurgy, participating in international study programs (AMASE, EEIGM), and collaborating with prestigious research institutes like DFKI and INM. This is a unique opportunity to shape a newly founded research area at an internationally oriented campus university, with a clear path to a lifetime W3 professorship based on performance in research and teaching.
