Job Summary

Saarland University is seeking an Associate Professor for Functional Materials to join the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. This position is central to the university's research focus on sustainability, circular economy, and resource-efficient technologies. The successful candidate will lead research in hierarchically organized functional materials and hybrid materials for energy applications, such as adaptive metamaterials, catalysts, or solid-state electrolytes. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting high-impact research, securing third-party funding, and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Materials Science. The role is initially a fixed-term W2 position for six years, with a clear path to a permanent W3 Full Professorship upon successful evaluation. Required Skills

Education

University degree and a doctorate (PhD) in Materials Science, Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field. Habilitation or equivalent academic achievement is required according to Section 41 of the Saarland Higher Education Act.

Experience
