Job Summary

The Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry is seeking an IT Expert to join their computing center team, focusing on the design, development, and operation of central file server systems and the institute-wide High-Performance Computing (HPC) cluster. This role involves hands-on administration and strategic enhancement of storage infrastructure, including managing backup/restore processes and filesystem management. The successful candidate will also be responsible for administering virtualized environments, supporting scientific applications, and providing crucial consultation and training to scientific users. This position offers a dynamic opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in a leading international scientific environment.

Required Skills

Education

University degree (e.g., Computer Science, Natural Sciences, Engineering) or comparable qualification with relevant professional experience

Experience

  • Professional experience in administering and developing complex IT infrastructures, preferably in a scientific environment
  • Practical experience with Storage Systems (IBM Storage Scale, FC Raid, Brocade FC OS, TSM)
  • Practical experience with Network Hardware and Management (Cumulus, Fibre Channel, network switches)
  • Practical experience with HPC environments (cluster nodes, batch queue systems like Slurm, NVIDIA GPUs)
  • Practical experience with Filesystem Management, Filesets, ACLs, Quotas
  • Practical experience with License Management (e.g., flexlm)
  • Practical experience with Scientific Applications (e.g., RStudio, CryoSPARC)
