Job Summary

This role involves ensuring the safe and compliant handling, storage, and disposal of chemical, hazardous, and radioactive waste within the internationally recognized Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry. The specialist will be responsible for the independent collection, sorting, and precise documentation of laboratory waste, including solvents, chemicals, and batteries. Key duties include maintaining the operational readiness of the central chemical and waste storage facility (Ex-area), organizing specialized waste removal, and overseeing dangerous goods transportation via road (ADR) and air (IATA). The ideal candidate has practical experience with chemicals and logistics, is highly organized, and will act as the Radiation Protection Officer for radioactive waste collection, ensuring strict adherence to legal and safety regulations. This is a secure, full-time position offering flexible hours in an international research environment near Munich.

Required Skills

Education

Completed vocational training related to laboratory work, environmental science, technology, or disposal, or equivalent qualification.

Experience

  • Practical experience in handling chemicals, hazardous materials, or disposal logistics (advantageous)
  • Knowledge of Dangerous Goods Transport (ADR/IATA) or willingness to obtain certification
  • Experience with digital tools (e.g., disposal forms, lab databases, Excel)
