Job Summary

This Postdoctoral Research Fellow position, based at the renowned Max-Planck-Institute of Biochemistry near Munich, focuses on the intersection of machine learning and protein design. The successful candidate will be instrumental in a multi-institutional project aimed at building a fully automated, high-throughput platform for synthesizing and functionally measuring computer-generated protein designs. This platform will generate crucial, high-quality datasets to drive a machine learning directed evolution (MLDE/active learning) cycle, ultimately optimizing protein designs for activity, expression, and yield. The role requires a Ph.D. in computer science, machine learning, or bioinformatics, coupled with strong prior experience in developing or applying ML methods specifically for protein engineering challenges. This is a unique, two-year funded opportunity starting in January 2026 to contribute to cutting-edge biomedical research in a world-leading scientific environment.
