Job Summary

As the Head of Occupational Health and Safety (EHS) at the prestigious Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry, you will lead the strategic and operational management of safety protocols for approximately 750 employees. Your daily responsibilities include performing risk assessments, advising institute leadership, and overseeing specialized areas such as hazardous materials transport, biological safety, genetic engineering, and radiation protection. You will serve as the primary liaison for authorities and professional associations while managing internal audits and training programs. Required Skills

Education

Degree as a Technician, Master Craftsman, or Engineer according to § 5 ASiG, or a Bachelor's/Master's degree in Natural Sciences, Engineering, or Occupational Sciences. Qualification as an Occupational Safety Specialist (Fachkraft für Arbeitssicherheit) is required (support for acquiring this qualification is available if missing).

Experience

  • Several years of professional experience in occupational health and safety
  • Proven leadership experience in a professional or organizational setting
  • Experience in a research or scientific environment is preferred but not mandatory
  • Practical experience in conducting risk assessments and safety audits
