Job Summary

This role is part of the newly established BirdTwin working group at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ), where you will develop the technical backbone for an ecological digital twin focused on European bird diversity. Day-to-day, you will design and implement scalable data architectures and automated pipelines that integrate heterogeneous monitoring, environmental, and remote sensing data. You will be responsible for operationalizing scientific processes, translating complex ecological requirements into robust, maintainable technical solutions using technologies like Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud/HPC infrastructures. The position is highly interdisciplinary, requiring close collaboration with ecologists and data scientists to build reproducible modelling workflows.
