Job Summary

The Max Rubner-Institut (MRI) is seeking a Deputy Director to support the management of the Institute for Nutritional Epidemiology and Physiology in Karlsruhe. In this dual-function role, you will assist the Institute Director with organizational development, administrative leadership, and inter-departmental coordination. Simultaneously, you will head the Nutritional Epidemiology specialist group, where you will be responsible for the scientific coordination of staff, planning and executing epidemiological research, and securing third-party funding. A key aspect of this position involves translating scientific findings into evidence-based policy advice for the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture. You will interpret complex data, publish in high-impact international journals, and represent the institute at global conferences. This is a prestigious permanent position offering either a federal civil service appointment (B1) or a public service contract (TVöD E15), making it an exceptional opportunity for an established scientist looking to combine high-level research with strategic institutional management.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree or equivalent in Epidemiology or Nutritional Science; Doctorate (PhD) completed with a grade of at least 'Good' (magna cum laude).

Experience

  • Professional experience in epidemiology or nutritional science
  • Proven track record of independent research in the field of nutritional epidemiology
  • Demonstrated experience in team-oriented personnel leadership
  • Extensive experience in managing and acquiring third-party funded research projects
  • Strong record of scientific publications in international peer-reviewed journals
  • Experience in scientific policy advising and drafting official statements is preferred
