Job Summary

The Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) is seeking a Technical Laboratory Assistant to join their mineral deposits research team in Hannover. In this role, you will be responsible for the end-to-end preparation and separation of mineral samples. Your day-to-day tasks will include performing mineral separations using various methods such as shaking tables, magnetic separation, and flotation, as well as creating thin and polished rock sections using specialized grinding and polishing equipment. Beyond routine preparation, you will play a key role in maintaining laboratory equipment and assisting in the development and optimization of new sample preparation methods. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with strong manual dexterity and technical understanding. It offers the stability of a permanent public service contract, flexible working hours, and the opportunity to contribute to significant geoscientific research at a federal level.

Required Skills

Education

Completed vocational training as a Chemical Laboratory Assistant, Physics Laboratory Assistant, Technical Assistant, or a comparable qualification.

Experience

  • Professional experience in the processing of mineral samples, including preparation and sampling
  • Professional experience in a laboratory environment (Chemical, Physical, or Technical)
  • Preferred: Experience working within a federal authority or a federal departmental research institution
  • Experience in maintaining and servicing laboratory machinery

German (Fluent)
