Job Summary

This is a 3-year, part-time (65%) research position at the Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg within the DFG-funded 'Biodiversity Exploratories' program. The successful candidate will investigate foliar endophyte communities (fungi and bacteria) across 300 forest and grassland sites. Day-to-day responsibilities involve extensive fieldwork collecting leaf samples, laboratory work including DNA extraction and next-generation sequencing, and sophisticated statistical analysis of sequence data. The role also includes presenting findings at international conferences and publishing in peer-reviewed journals. This position is highly attractive as it offers the opportunity to complete a doctoral degree (PhD) while working in one of Europe's most modern plant ecological laboratories. You will benefit from a collaborative environment involving the German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv) and the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ), all while operating under the structured TV-L public service salary scale.

Required Skills

Education

Completed scientific university degree (Master of Science or Diploma) in Plant Ecology, Biology, Environmental Sciences, or a related field.

Experience

  • Professional experience in DNA extraction, preparation, and sequencing is essential
  • Extensive ecological expertise in plant-endophyte interactions and biodiversity-ecosystem function research
  • Experience in ecological fieldwork is advantageous
  • Proven experience in quantitative and statistical analysis
  • Experience in supervising technical staff or undergraduate students
