Job Summary

This role involves supporting the LIFE junior research group at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena, focusing on the molecular mechanisms of microbial interactions within the human gut microbiome. As a Laboratory Technician, you will be responsible for day-to-day laboratory organization and the execution of interdisciplinary chemical-biological experiments. Key tasks include operating and maintaining analytical instruments like HPLC-MS for protein analysis, cultivating bacteria under biosafety levels 1 and 2, and performing various enzyme and ligand-binding assays. You will also play a vital role in documenting results, ensuring compliance with biological safety regulations (GenTSV/BioStoffV), and supporting students during their practical lab work. Required Skills

Education

Completed vocational training as a Laboratory Assistant, state-certified Technical Assistant (BTA/CTA), or a comparable qualification in a related field.

Experience

  • Professional experience in molecular biological, biochemical, or analytical techniques
  • Experience in mass spectrometry or anaerobic cultivation is highly desirable
  • Experience in laboratory organization and maintenance of analytical equipment
  • Experience in microbiological and proteomic workflows
  • Experience in student supervision or support within a laboratory setting
