Job Summary

This permanent, part-time position (20 hours/week) is based at the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Macromolecular Chemistry (IOMC) at Friedrich Schiller University Jena. As a Chemical Technical Assistant, you will play a vital role in Prof. Dr. Ulrich S. Schubert's research group, focusing on the synthesis of synthetic macromolecules (polymers), organic initiators, and monomers. Your day-to-day responsibilities include performing controlled and living polymerization techniques, upscaling syntheses, and purifying products through distillation, crystallization, and chromatography. You will also utilize analytical methods such as SEC and NMR to characterize materials. Beyond bench work, you will manage general laboratory duties, including chemical procurement, waste disposal, and equipment maintenance. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional looking to contribute to cutting-edge research in energy storage and sustainable materials within a highly interdisciplinary and family-friendly university environment. There is also potential to increase working hours up to full-time through third-party funded projects.

Required Skills

Education

Successfully completed technical vocational training as a Technical Assistant, Chemical Technical Assistant (CTA), Chemistry Laboratory Technician, or equivalent qualifications.

Experience
