Job Summary

This position at the Institute of Statistics and Econometrics at Kiel University offers a unique opportunity for an academic professional to pursue a doctoral or post-doctoral qualification while contributing to research and teaching. The successful candidate will focus on applied time series analysis and forecasting using large datasets. A significant portion of the role involves advancing research data management at the institute, which includes advising scientists on data management plans, implementing FAIR principles, and developing institutional guidelines. Beyond research, the role entails teaching responsibilities (5.5 hours per week), specifically conducting tutorials in statistics and econometrics in both German and English, supervising students, and grading examinations. This is a 75% part-time position (29.025 hours/week) fixed for a duration of six years, providing a stable long-term environment for academic growth and networking within the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree or equivalent in Economics or Business Sciences with a grade of 2.5 ('Good') or better, specializing in Econometrics and Statistics.

Experience

  • Professional experience in handling economic data
  • Experience in independent scientific work in the field of forecasting or Bayesian econometrics (e.g., through a thesis or seminar papers)
  • Experience in using statistical and econometric software such as Python, R, or Matlab
  • Experience in academic teaching or student supervision is preferred
