This research position is based at the Max Rubner-Institut (MRI) in Detmold within the Institute for Safety and Quality in Cereal. As part of an interdisciplinary team, you will contribute to a federally funded project focused on the 'Wheat Quality of the Future.' Your primary objective is to evaluate the potential of spectroscopic and image-based rapid methods combined with Artificial Intelligence for reliable variety identification and quality clustering of bread wheat. Day-to-day, you will perform technical investigations of wheat samples, maintain advanced sensor equipment, and apply deep learning approaches to process large spectroscopic datasets. This role is particularly attractive for those seeking to pursue a doctorate, as the position is designed to promote scientific qualification. You will work in a modern research environment with flexible working hours, mobile work options (up to 60%), and a collaborative network of 200 scientists dedicated to public policy advice and food safety.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree, Diploma, or equivalent in Computer Science, Physics, Agro-Bioinformatics, or a closely related field.

Experience

  • Professional experience in the technical investigation of grain samples using spectroscopic and imaging methods
  • Initial experience in the field of Machine Learning and Deep Learning applications
  • Experience in handling optoelectronic systems and spectroscopic devices
  • Experience in implementing and validating algorithms for data clustering or identification
  • Experience in scientific writing and presenting results at conferences is preferred
