Job Summary

This position offers the opportunity to join the Forensic Science Institute of the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) in the specialized department for Fires and Room Explosions. As a Web Developer, you will play a crucial role in automating workflows and digitizing crime scene documentation to enhance national and international information processing. The role involves the entire software lifecycle, from planning and design to implementation, debugging, and deployment of complex data analysis systems. You will work in an agile environment, contributing to the development of tools used in high-stakes criminal investigations. This position is particularly unique as it combines modern web development with public safety, offering a meaningful career in a federal authority. Candidates can specialize in either Frontend (JavaScript/TypeScript/Frameworks) or Backend (Java/Kotlin/Spring Boot) development. The role includes occasional domestic travel for on-site digital documentation support and participation in a consultation on-call rotation.

Required Skills

Education

University degree (Bachelor or Diploma) in Computer Science or a comparable MINT field with an IT component; alternatively, a completed vocational IT training with relevant professional experience.

Experience

  • Professional experience in software development and data analysis processes
  • Experience in agile teamwork and version control using Git
  • Experience with software containerization and orchestration tools
  • 3 years of professional IT experience required if applying with a vocational qualification and relevant MINT background
  • 6 years of professional IT experience required if applying with a general vocational qualification
  • Experience in the full software development lifecycle including documentation and deployment

Additional

  • Willingness to undergo a security clearance check according to § 8 SÜG. Mandatory provision of a DNA sample for the BKA internal reference database. Willingness for occasional domestic travel (4-6 times per year, 1-3 days each). Participation in a consultation on-call rotation (0-4 times per month). Initial on-site training required in Wiesbaden.
