Job Summary

The University of Rostock is seeking two outstanding Postdoctoral Research Associates specializing in Artificial Intelligence to join the Institute of Visual and Analytic Computing. This role is central to the NEXCELL project, a multi-million-euro research initiative focused on developing a groundbreaking Point-of-Care platform for next-generation Cell and Gene Therapies. The successful candidates will be responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating deep neural, probabilistic, and hybrid symbolic learning models for real-time sensor fusion, anomaly detection, and state estimation in dynamic bioreactor environments. Key tasks include adapting Large Language Models (LLMs) for domain-specific process interpretation, developing multimodal bioinformatics pipelines, and collaborating closely with industry partners. This position offers a structured path toward Habilitation and professional development in both academia and industry, focusing on advancing AI in complex, safety-critical, and data-scarce bioprocess applications.

Required Skills

Education

Completed Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral degrees (PhD) in Computer Science or a comparable field. Qualifying degrees must have been completed with a grade of 1.7 (German grading system) or better.

Experience

  • Completed Doctoral degree (PhD) in Computer Science or a comparable field with a final grade of 'magna cum laude' or better
  • Demonstrated research experience in Artificial Intelligence, statistical/probabilistic modeling, and/or data analysis
  • Proven ability to work independently and reliably under time pressure
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate in interdisciplinary research environments
