Job Summary
The Max Rubner Institute (MRI), the federal research and advisory body for nutrition and food, is seeking a Director and Professor to lead the Institute of Animal Foods in Kiel. This pivotal leadership role involves the strategic and scientific development of the institute, which focuses on the safety, quality, and sustainability of animal-derived foods (milk, fish, meat, eggs) across the entire production chain. Day-to-day responsibilities include defining research concepts, coordinating policy advice for the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMLEH), and actively participating in national and international committees. The successful candidate must be a scientifically proven leader with expertise in food science, demonstrated through international publications and experience in acquiring third-party funding. This position requires exceptional leadership skills, the ability to manage decentralized operations, and strong communication skills to convey complex research findings to political, scientific, and public audiences.
Required Skills
Education
Completed university degree (Master or equivalent) and a doctorate (PhD) with at least a 'Good' grade in Food Chemistry, Food Technology, Agricultural Sciences, Veterinary Medicine, or a comparable field. Habilitation or comparable achievements in a relevant subject area are desirable.
Experience
- Demonstrated scientific expertise through publications in international journals
- Experience in the acquisition and execution of third-party funded projects
- Experience in leading working groups
- High level of leadership experience and pronounced leadership competencies
- Experience in scientific policy consulting (advantageous)

Additional
- Must be willing to responsibly take on administrative and management tasks associated with institute leadership. For international degrees, a credential evaluation from the Central Office for Foreign Education (ZAB) is required upon successful application.
