Job Summary

The Max Rubner-Institut (MRI) is seeking a Deputy Director for the Institute of Nutritional Epidemiology and Physiology in Karlsruhe. In this high-level leadership role, you will support the Institute Director in research management and administrative oversight while simultaneously leading the Nutritional Epidemiology specialist group. Your daily activities will involve coordinating scientific research, conducting statistical data analysis, and drafting evidence-based statements for policy advice to the Federal Ministry. You will be responsible for acquiring third-party funding, managing international research collaborations, and publishing findings in prestigious journals. This position is unique as it offers a dual path of either a permanent civil servant appointment (Besoldungsgruppe B1) or a senior public service contract (TVöD E15). It is an ideal role for an established scientist looking to combine high-level organizational management with active epidemiological research in a family-friendly, public sector environment.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree (or equivalent) in Epidemiology or Nutritional Science; a Doctorate (PhD) completed with a grade of at least 'Good' (magna cum laude) is generally required.

Experience

  • Professional experience in epidemiology or nutritional science
  • Proven track record of scientific research in the field of nutritional epidemiology
  • Demonstrated experience in team-oriented leadership and personnel management
  • Extensive experience in managing and acquiring third-party research projects
  • Significant publication record in international peer-reviewed journals
  • Experience in scientific policy advising and drafting official statements is preferred

Additional

  • The role is located in Karlsruhe. Candidates must meet the legal requirements for appointment as a German federal civil servant (B1) or will otherwise be hired under the TVöD E15 collective agreement.
