Job Summary

The Diocese of Speyer is seeking an engaged Climate Protection Manager to lead its sustainability efforts and transition diocesan structures toward effective climate protection. This role is pivotal in developing and implementing an integrated Climate Protection Concept, including energy and greenhouse gas balances across real estate, mobility, procurement, IT, and land use. Day-to-day responsibilities involve process and project management, coordinating administrative tasks, organizing internal workshops, and developing initial climate protection measures and consulting services for parishes and church institutions. The ideal candidate holds a degree in environmental engineering or a related field, possesses comprehensive experience in climate protection and sustainability, and demonstrates strong project steering and communication skills. This is a unique opportunity to apply environmental expertise within a value-driven, faith-based organization, supported by federal funding and initially contracted for two years.

Required Skills

Education

University degree (or equivalent qualification) in Environmental Engineering, Energy and Environmental Technology, Supply/Building Technology, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or Environmental and Sustainability Science

Experience

  • Comprehensive professional experience in climate protection, energy, and environmental management, and sustainability
  • Experience in public relations and media affinity
  • Experience in project development and steering
  • Experience with church structures and collaboration with volunteers (advantageous)
