Job Summary

This Postdoctoral position focuses on developing autonomous X-ray Serial Micro-Computed Tomography (SµCT) using synchrotron radiation for large-scale morphological imaging of biological samples in natural history collections. The researcher will be critical in advancing biodiversity and evolutionary studies by focusing on multiple contrast and hierarchical imaging, utilizing coherent X-ray optics, advanced image reconstruction algorithms, and experiment automation. Day-to-day tasks involve implementing SµCT workflows for arthropod collections, integrating optional imaging optics with high-level control systems, and developing AI-supported algorithms for optimizing data acquisition parameters based on sample pre-characterization. This role is part of the collaborative 'Virtual Museum' project, offering access to cutting-edge facilities like the KIT Light Source and PETRA III at DESY, Hamburg, and contributing to the digitization of Germany’s natural history collections.
