Job Summary

This role involves contributing to the assessment and evaluation of surface water quality across the state, focusing specifically on chemical parameters and compliance with national and international reporting obligations, particularly the European Water Framework Directive (WFD). Day-to-day tasks include collaborating on the conceptual development and maintenance of the surface water database, ensuring data quality and plausibility for chemical monitoring data, and drafting reports and expert opinions on water status. The ideal candidate holds a Master's degree in Chemistry, Geoecology, or Environmental Sciences, possesses deep knowledge of chemical surface water quality (especially environmental pollutants), and is proficient in handling databases and large datasets. This is a crucial, part-time (50%) position based in Karlsruhe, offering the opportunity to actively protect natural resources and contribute to public welfare through environmental monitoring.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree (Diplom/Master's program or equivalent) in Chemistry, Geoecology, Environmental Sciences, or a comparable field. Foreign degrees require evaluation.

Experience

  • Professional experience in chemical surface water quality, especially environmental pollutants
  • Experience collaborating with internal and external service providers (laboratories, samplers)
  • Experience with databases and large data volumes, or willingness to learn specialized IT applications
  • Entry-level candidates are also suitable
