Job Summary

This role involves working as a Backend Software Developer within the Center for Environmental Informatics in Karlsruhe/Stuttgart, focusing on developing and maintaining specialized IT solutions for environmental protection, water management, waste, and pollution control (WIBAS). The core responsibilities include the technical implementation of functional requirements using Java/Hibernate and Oracle databases, managing requirements in collaboration with technical departments, and overseeing development carried out by external IT service providers. The developer will also be responsible for conducting and automating software tests, administering applications, and documenting all maintenance and development activities. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to public welfare by supporting environmental and nature conservation efforts in Baden-Württemberg, working within a competent and dedicated team on meaningful, long-term projects.

Required Skills

Education

Completed university degree (Bachelor, FH Diploma) in Informatics, Geoinformatics, Environmental Informatics, Business Informatics, or a comparable field in Engineering or Natural Sciences.

Experience

  • Several years of professional experience in programming, data management, and IT system support (required for those with non-Informatics degrees)
  • Experience in programming functional requirements and technical maintenance of applications using Java/Hibernate
  • Experience in agile IT project and requirements management
  • Experience in conducting software tests, developing, and applying automated test procedures
  • Experience in connecting database systems
  • Knowledge of Oracle databases (advantageous)
  • Experience in training support (ideally)

  • Must provide certificate evaluation from the Central Office for Foreign Education (ZAB) for foreign degrees. Knowledge of the IT specifications of the state of Baden-Württemberg is desirable.
