Job Summary

Hahn-Schickard is seeking a motivated PhD Student or Research Associate to join their Software Solutions/Artificial Intelligence division in Villingen-Schwenningen or Freiburg. This role involves leading and executing industry-funded, customer-specific, and publicly funded R&D projects within the Artificial Intelligence research group. Day-to-day tasks include advanced research and algorithm development, focusing on Deep Learning, Federated Learning, and Embedded AI. The successful candidate will be responsible for practical software implementation, conducting computer experiments, writing technical reports, and publishing scientific papers. They will apply research outcomes to critical fields like Industry and Process Automation, Environmental, and Medical Technology (Industry 4.0, Cyber-physical Systems), and assist in acquiring new projects and partners. This position offers excellent opportunities for professional development, including the pursuit of a PhD, flexible working hours, and compensation based on the public service pay scale (TV-L).

Required Skills

Education

University degree (Bachelor/Master) with above-average success in a STEM subject (e.g., Informatics, Computer Science, Embedded Systems, Artificial Intelligence, or comparable studies). PhD opportunity is provided and desired.

Experience

  • Experience in various areas of Artificial Intelligence, especially Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and Federated Learning
  • Very good programming experience, particularly in C/C++ and Python
  • Experience in R&D project execution and leadership
  • Professional experience with tools such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow (Lite), Keras, or PyTorch
