Job Summary

This permanent, full-time position at the Centre for Organismal Studies (COS) at Heidelberg University seeks a highly motivated Lab Technician/Manager to support cutting-edge research in animal-microbiome interactions. The role involves extensive bacterial engineering, including cloning, molecular engineering of expression vectors, and targeted/random mutagenesis, alongside the manipulation of genome-wide mutant bacterial libraries for high-throughput screening. While experience with *Drosophila* genetics is beneficial, related skills like genetic crosses and transgenic line generation can be learned on the job. The successful candidate will also be crucial in laboratory organization, managing instrument maintenance, inventory, ordering, and training new group members. This role requires fluency in English, strong practical experience in molecular biology, biochemistry, and microbiology, offering a dynamic environment to advance skills in multi-omics approaches and high-throughput workflows.

Education

Advanced degree from accredited university or technical school in microbiology, life sciences, or equivalent

Experience

  • Multiple years of professional experience in microbiology, life sciences, or equivalent (if no advanced degree)
  • Experience in the culture and genetic engineering of microorganisms
  • Practical experience of cell and molecular biology methods, biochemistry, and (immuno)histochemistry
  • Experience in -omics (Metabolomics, Proteomics, Tn-seq, RNA-seq, ChIP-seq) (optional)
  • Experience in high-throughput workflows and automated liquid handling (optional)
  • Experience in cell culture (optional)
  • Experience with high resolution imaging of tissues (optional)
