Job Summary
This is a dual-role opportunity for a motivated cell and molecular biologist to support the Stem Cell Niche Heterogeneity research group at the Centre for Organismal Studies (COS) Heidelberg. The successful candidate will be crucial in maintaining laboratory operations and contributing to cutting-edge research focused on single-cell imaging and spatial transcriptomics to understand muscle stem cell biology and tissue patterning. Day-to-day responsibilities include extensive animal experimentation using the model organism *Drosophila melanogaster*, performing immunofluorescence staining, setting up genetic crosses, and operating confocal microscopy. A significant organizational component involves managing the lab, including instrument maintenance, inventory, ordering, and training new group members. The role requires strong practical skills in molecular and biochemical methods, basic proficiency in R for image analysis, and the ability to work independently in an English-speaking environment. This full-time position is limited until the end of 2026.
Required Skills
Education
Relevant Technical Training (e.g., Biological Technical Assistant or Laboratory Technician) OR Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Biology or a related Natural Science discipline
Experience
- Multiple years in relevant professional experience (required for technical training qualification route)
- Very good practical experience and theoretical knowledge of cell and molecular biology methods
- Experience in molecular and biochemical lab skills (immunofluorescence staining, confocal microscopy)
- Experience in laboratory organization, purchasing, and resource management
