Job Summary

The Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility (BALM) is seeking a dedicated Market Observer to join their Market Observation division. This role is crucial for preparing and executing decentralized market monitoring by conducting market discussions and expert interviews with companies in the transport, logistics, and stakeholder sectors. Day-to-day responsibilities include preparing for and conducting field interviews (often multi-day trips), analyzing collected information, and procuring transport and economic data related to road, rail, and inland waterway transport. Additionally, the Market Observer will conduct interviews concerning Civil Emergency Preparedness (ZN) and specific transport competencies to contribute significantly to crisis prevention. The position requires a high degree of autonomy, strong presentation skills, and the ability to travel extensively, offering the opportunity to work on key governmental reports and studies concerning the future of mobility and logistics in Germany.

Required Skills

Education

Relevant Bachelor's or Diploma degree (University or FH) in Economics, Social Sciences, or Administrative Sciences, OR equivalent abilities and experience (e.g., Administrative Specialist qualification), OR eligibility for the higher non-technical administrative service of the Federal Government.

Experience

  • Professional experience in the sought-after area (if holding a non-standard degree/qualification)
  • Knowledge of operational and transport economic contexts related to truck, rail, and inland waterway transport
