Job Summary

The German Weather Service (DWD) is seeking a Specialist to join the National Climate Monitoring division in Offenbach am Main. This role is crucial for maintaining and developing the central information and data foundation used for national climate monitoring and public dissemination. Day-to-day responsibilities involve automating data flows, from the input of current measurements to the preparation of climatological data for national climate databases. Key activities include ensuring the operational stability of the National Climate Data Center, consolidating technical documentation, and operating/developing monitoring processes and IT procedures for specialized databases. The successful candidate must hold a relevant Bachelor's degree (or equivalent diploma) in fields like Computer Science, Meteorology, Physics, or Geography. Strong language skills in both German (C1) and English (B2) are required, alongside experience in IT project implementation and data management, making this a vital position for professionals dedicated to climate science and data infrastructure.

Experience

  • Professional experience in securing the operational stability of data centers
  • Experience in the operation and further development of monitoring processes and specialized IT procedures
  • Experience in programming using higher-level languages (UNIX-Script, SQL, Python, Fortran preferred)
  • Experience with relational databases, particularly Oracle (desirable)
  • Experience in handling large data volumes, including geodata and their formats (desirable)
