Job Summary

This role is based at the Fraunhofer IOSB in Ettlingen, supporting research and development in advanced photonic materials and laser systems, specifically focusing on crystal processing for high-quality laser optical components. The successful candidate will be responsible for manufacturing laser optical components from crystalline materials using various techniques, including ultrasonic drilling, diamond sawing, lapping, and polishing, adhering to strict specifications. A key part of the job involves optimizing processing methods, managing necessary processes and recipes, conducting quality control measurements on components, and maintaining laboratory equipment. Furthermore, the assistant will support the growth of optical crystals. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to projects supporting national security within a dynamic research environment, requiring strong technical understanding, manual dexterity, and proficiency in both German and English.

Required Skills

Education

Completed vocational training as a Chemical Technical Assistant, Physical Technical Assistant, or comparable specialization.

Experience

  • • Professional experience in processing hard-brittle materials (e.g., mechanical or chemical-mechanical polishing, lapping, sawing, drilling)
