Job Summary

This role involves leading the organization of the 'Ecological Modeling' department's laboratories and providing coordinating support for crucial field experiments. The Technical Assistant will be responsible for structuring and overseeing laboratory workflows, independently planning and coordinating fieldwork, and providing technical guidance to students (Bachelor/Master) on safety and quality control for lab and field work. Key technical tasks include operating specialized equipment like the GFS-3000 gas exchange measurement device, conducting experiments in plant growth chambers, performing elemental analysis, and light microscopy. The position requires planning, installing, and maintaining networks of measurement devices and data loggers for field trials, managing chemical procurement/disposal, and maintaining research databases. This is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated professional with a technical background in environmental or lab technology to contribute directly to cutting-edge research on biodiversity and ecosystem functions within an international team.

Required Skills

Education

Completed training as a state-certified Technician (e.g., Environmental Technology, Laboratory Technology, Electrical Engineering, Measurement and Data Technology) or comparable technical vocational training.

Experience

  • Professional experience in laboratory work in biology and related fields
  • Experience with measurement technology, especially sensors and data loggers for field work
  • Professional experience in laboratory and field technology, organization, maintenance, and calibration of measuring devices (if no formal technical degree)
