Job Summary

This role is for a Certified Technician in Electrical Engineering, specializing in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), to join the Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration (ABVT) in Magdeburg. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring the high availability and integrity of critical traffic services and systems along inland waterways, including fiber optic networks (SDH, MPLS) and proprietary radio networks (NIF, AIS, DGNSS). Day-to-day responsibilities involve creating and updating implementation plans, evaluating performance statistics, coordinating maintenance and repair, managing spare parts inventory, and handling procurement processes according to public contract law (VgV, UVgO). This is a permanent position offering the chance to contribute to the development of 'Traffic Technology 4.0' systems, providing a stable career path within a large federal network and requiring a willingness to travel for business trips and an initial training period in Koblenz.

Required Skills

Education

State-certified Technician qualification in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Information and Communication Technology, or comparable qualification

Experience

  • Professional experience as a Technician
  • Good knowledge and practical experience in maintenance and spare parts management of transmission systems
  • Practical experience in network technology including configuration
  • Experience in measurement technology and fault handling in transmission and network technology
  • Knowledge in planning and setting up transmission systems

Languages

German (Fluent)English (Intermediate)

Additional

  • Willingness to undertake multi-day business trips within Germany and neighboring foreign countries; Possession of a Class B driving license (or old Class 3) and willingness to drive an official vehicle; Willingness to complete temporary initial training in Koblenz; Must comply with public sector performance assessment procedures for internal candidates.
