Job Summary

This role is for a Research Associate and App Developer to join the Ubiquitous Computing & Smart Systems team, focusing on human-centered technologies and user interfaces. The primary focus is on developing and researching digital systems and mobile applications (iPadOS/Swift, Android/Kotlin) to support fire departments in their operations, specifically enhancing an existing app used across multiple German states. Day-to-day tasks involve guided research and development work, aiming for a PhD or post-doctoral qualification, alongside the operational development and maintenance of mobile apps and potentially the backend (PHP). The position requires strong programming skills in either iPadOS (Swift) or Android (Kotlin) and a Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field. You will be responsible for user-centric research, requirements gathering, iterative development, conducting user studies, and publishing research findings at conferences and journals, making this a unique blend of academic research and practical application development.

Required Skills

University Diploma or Master's degree in Computer Science, Applied Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, Media Informatics, Software Engineering, Robotics, or comparable field

Experience

  • Professional experience in research and development work
  • Strong programming skills in either iPadOS (Swift) or Android (Kotlin)
  • Experience with user-centric research and development (desirable)
  • Experience with Webservices (PHP) or multiplatform app development (Kotlin Multiplatform) (desirable)
