Job Summary

This role seeks an outstanding Postdoctoral Researcher to join the Materials Research division at the GSI Helmholtzzentrum, contributing to the DINERWA project focused on radiation effects in fusion-relevant materials (ODS steels, tungsten nanostructures, advanced alloys). The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, constructing, and commissioning a Laser-Doppler Vibrometry-based setup for non-contact measurement of mechanical material properties, and developing associated control and data analysis frameworks for online measurements at GSI irradiation facilities. Key qualifications include a doctoral degree in Materials Science or Physics, profound research experience in radiation physics and material characterization, and expertise in advanced characterization methods (e.g., SIMS, XRD, SEM). The position requires strong knowledge of solid-state physics, materials under extreme conditions, and proficiency in Monte-Carlo simulations (FLUKA, GEANT4) and programming (Python or C++) for experimental control and data analysis. This is a full-time, 24-month contract offering a challenging opportunity within an exceptional international research environment.
