Job Summary

This role is a two-year fixed-term position within the Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt), focusing on the development and implementation of a novel measurement procedure for assessing longitudinal evenness during asphalt paving. The Development Engineer will be instrumental in the 'QuaLae' third-party funded project, which aims to create a system for real-time quality control on construction sites. Key responsibilities include conducting requirements analyses, selecting and testing suitable sensor technology, developing functional prototypes, and designing control and evaluation units for data acquisition and processing. The engineer will also be responsible for system calibration, validation under real construction conditions, and creating technical documentation and practical recommendations. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in road construction technology, combining engineering expertise in electrical systems, automation, or mechatronics with practical application in a vital public sector environment.

Required Skills

Education

Bachelor's degree or FH-Diploma in Engineering Sciences, preferably Electrical Engineering, Measurement Technology & Sensor Technology, Automation Technology, or Mechatronics

Experience

  • Practical experience and knowledge in low voltage systems (up to 1000V) on devices and fixtures (Desirable)
  • Knowledge and practical experience in handling measurement systems (Desirable)
  • Experience in the calibration of measurement systems (Desirable)
