Job Summary

This fixed-term role (parental leave replacement) as a Scientific Officer focuses on ensuring that climate protection is prioritized in all municipal decisions for the city of Darmstadt. Day-to-day, you will scientifically assess relevant administrative proposals (Magistratsvorlagen) for their impact on the urban climate and greenhouse gas (GHG) balance. A core responsibility involves advising specialized departments during the planning process, developing effective alternatives, and proposing compensation measures to maximize positive climate outcomes. You will also be instrumental in developing and continuously improving the scientific evaluation system used for climate impact assessment (Klimavorbehalt). The ideal candidate holds a Master’s degree in a relevant scientific or engineering field (e.g., Environmental or Energy Sciences) and possesses significant experience in GHG balancing, planning processes, and interdisciplinary collaboration. This position offers a challenging, high-impact role contributing directly to ambitious climate goals within a supportive public service environment.

Required Skills

Education

Completed university degree (Master/Diplom TU/TH) in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Energy Sciences, Physics, or Climate Protection, or a comparable qualification.

Experience

  • Professional experience in Greenhouse Gas (GHG) balancing
  • Professional experience in planning processes (administrative context)
  • Professional experience in infrastructure and/or building technology
  • Experience in interdisciplinary cooperation with various stakeholders
