Job Summary

The Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) is seeking a Research and Scientific Software Developer to join their Process Simulation department in Berlin-Steglitz. This role is crucial for advancing technical safety in materials science, engineering, and chemistry by focusing on research software development within R&D projects. Day-to-day responsibilities include conceptualizing, programming, and configuring process control technology (e.g., SIEMENS PCS 7), building and maintaining container solutions for scientific computing and AI systems (using tools like Podman), and ensuring continuous software project maintenance. The ideal candidate holds a degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience (such as an IT Specialist with professional experience) and possesses expertise in object-oriented programming, CI/CD pipelines, and database administration. Strong communication skills and a structured, team-oriented approach are essential for collaborating with central IT and onboarding new scientific staff.

University degree (Diploma (FH)/Bachelor) in Computer Science or comparable field, or proven equivalent skills and experience (IT Specialist with several years of professional experience)

Experience
