Job Summary
This role involves working within the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) to analyze and manage foreign investment transactions in German companies, focusing specifically on potential IT security risks that could threaten public order, security, or essential national security interests. The Policy Officer will be responsible for processing investment review procedures under relevant foreign trade law (AWG/AWV), which includes analyzing application documents, conducting technical, economic, and legal research, and coordinating the BSI's position. Day-to-day tasks include developing risk mitigation strategies, creating written statements for inter-ministerial coordination, and preparing reports and presentations for industry and government representatives. The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in IT security, solid economic knowledge, and the ability to quickly integrate into complex legal frameworks, contributing strategically to national cybersecurity resilience.
Required Skills
Education
Completed or near-completion university degree (Master's or equivalent) in Economics, Business Administration, Business Informatics, or Political Science, supplemented by IT security qualifications; OR a completed or near-completion technical or scientific degree (e.g., Informatics, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics) supplemented by basic economic knowledge.
Experience
- Professional experience in information technology and specifically in IT security is required
- Solid economic knowledge is necessary
- Ability to quickly familiarize oneself with legal issues
- Experience in strategic work and structured process advancement

Additional
- Willingness to undergo an expanded security clearance check (SÜG § 9); Willingness to participate in further training and undertake occasional business trips; Must provide proof of equivalence for foreign educational qualifications (ZAB assessment).
