Job Summary

This is a full-time, permanent Research Associate position starting February 1, 2026, within the Department of Medicine, Institute for Medical Microbiology and Hospital Hygiene at Philipps University Marburg. The successful candidate will join a research group focused on host-pathogen interactions and vaccine development. Key responsibilities include planning, conducting, and evaluating microbiological, immunological, and animal experimental projects under BSL-2 conditions. The role involves significant leadership duties, including the supervision of technical assistants, PhD students, and interns, as well as actively participating in and independently submitting grant applications to external funding bodies, ethics commissions, and regulatory authorities for animal testing and genetic engineering projects. The ideal candidate must possess a PhD, substantial postdoctoral experience, a strong publication record, and necessary certifications like FELASA and Genetic Engineering Project Leader qualification, demonstrating a high degree of independence and motivation in an international research environment.

Required Skills

Education

Completed scientific university degree (Diploma, Master, or equivalent) in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Medicine, or Pharmacy, plus a PhD with above-average performance.

Experience

  • Professional experience as a Postdoctoral Researcher domestically or internationally
  • Experience in teaching and supervising doctoral candidates
  • Demonstrated success in acquiring third-party funding (Drittmitteleinwerbungen)
  • Over-average publication record
  • Necessary qualification as a FELASA certificate holder
  • Necessary qualification as a Genetic Engineering Project Leader
