Job Summary
The Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS) is seeking a Scientific Officer to lead and operate the accredited Gamma Spectrometry Laboratory for Trace Analysis in Freiburg. This pivotal role involves the scientific-technical management of the lab, focusing on measuring minimal amounts of radioactive substances in the air, and ensuring the continuous improvement of the process-oriented, norm-compliant Quality Management System (QMS) according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025. The officer will coordinate with German trace measurement stations, represent the BfS in national and international working groups, and be responsible for the scientific evaluation and publication of data. Candidates must hold a university degree (Master's or equivalent) in Physics, Chemistry, or Environmental Engineering, possess extensive experience in environmental monitoring, specifically trace analysis of radioactive materials, and demonstrate profound expertise in Gamma Spectrometry and accredited laboratory operations.

Completed scientific university degree (Master's or equivalent) in Physics, Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, or comparable field.
Experience
- Long-term experience in environmental monitoring, ideally in the analysis of minimal amounts of radioactive substances in the air
- Profound knowledge and long-term practical experience in Gamma Spectrometry
- Long-term experience working in a process-oriented and norm-compliant environment of accredited laboratories
- Experience maintaining a norm-compliant Quality Management System (QMS)

Additional
- Must possess expertise and knowledge in Radiation Protection (Strahlenschutz) or be willing to obtain it promptly to assist with internal radiation protection at the Freiburg location.
