Job Summary

This role involves serving as a Scientific Officer within the Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS), focusing on Atmospheric Radioactivity and Trace Analysis. The incumbent will be responsible for the scientific management and enhancement of sampling and measurement technology, specifically for the CTBTO station on Schauinsland, ensuring high data availability and integrity for monitoring the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty. Day-to-day tasks include evaluating and summarizing radionuclide data from international monitoring networks (IMS), developing and optimizing scientific IT systems for automated data processing, and supporting laboratory management in accredited trace analysis labs. A crucial component of the role is participation in emergency and civil protection duties, including on-call services for the radiological situation center. The position requires a scientific university degree in Physics, Chemistry, or similar, combined with strong IT skills in LINUX/Windows environments and experience with scripting for automated data processing.

Required Skills

Education

University degree (Master's or equivalent) in Physics, Chemistry, Environmental Technology, or comparable scientific field

Experience

  • Professional experience in the conception, further development, and maintenance of complex systems for sampling and measuring radioactive substances in the environment
  • Foundational experience with Shell, SQL, Python, or other scripts for automatic data processing
  • Experience working in process-oriented and norm-compliant environments
