Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an IT System Administrator to join the Saxon State Ministry of the Interior (SMI) in Dresden, focusing on operating, configuring, and monitoring IT services and systems primarily utilizing the Linux operating system (RHEL and Ubuntu). The role is crucial for implementing the Free State of Saxony's Open Source strategy, involving the setup of new IT infrastructure and the future expansion into a container platform (such as Docker, Podman, or LXC) to support digitalization and AI projects. You will be instrumental in migrating and operating IT infrastructure within two new state data centers. Ideal candidates will have a strong background in Linux systems, foundational knowledge of container platforms, and an affinity for shaping organizational IT processes, contributing to a secure and future-oriented public administration environment.

Required Skills

Education

Bachelor's degree or equivalent diploma in Computer Science, Business Informatics, Administrative Informatics, or a comparable field, OR comparable abilities and experience (e.g., completed vocational training in IT combined with extensive professional experience).

Experience

  • Professional experience in operating, configuring, and monitoring IT services and systems using Linux
  • Several years of relevant professional experience (particularly beneficial)
  • At least five years of professional experience in information technology (required if substituting a degree with vocational training)

German (Fluent)

Additional

  • Must possess good German language skills, written and spoken, at native speaker level or qualification level C2. Willingness to undergo a security clearance (SÜ 2) according to the Saxon Security Clearance Act. Position is located in Dresden.
