Job Summary

This role involves working as a Postdoctoral Physicist within the FRS/SFRS-Experiments department at GSI/FAIR, one of the world's largest research projects focused on heavy ion research. The primary focus is the integration, commissioning, and operation of new detector systems for the Super-FRS (Fragment Separator) at the international FAIR facility. Day-to-day tasks include mechanical, vacuum, electrical, and safety integration of complex apparatus, followed by rigorous testing and documentation, initially without beam and later under realistic experimental conditions with increasing beam intensity. The position requires a PhD in Nuclear Physics, extensive practical experience with commissioning nuclear physics detector systems, and strong knowledge of cryogenics, vacuum technology, and gas-filled detectors. This is an attractive opportunity to contribute to world-class science in a highly technical, international environment, preparing for the 'Early Science' and 'First Science' phases of the FAIR project.
